SINCE 1908
The Cedarhurst Yacht Club transformed from a modest maritime gathering into a vibrant community hub for sailing and social events. Despite challenges like the Great Depression and hurricanes, it adapted over the years with new classes of boats and expanded programs for youth sailing education. Celebrating over a century, the club remains a cherished institution, continuing its legacy of yachting and camaraderie.
HISTORY
The Club was founded in 1908 under name of the "Cedarhurst Yacht Club." The object as stated in the Certificate of Incorporation was to "encourage yachting and yacht building and social recreation in yachting and boating." Today, with the same goals in mind, we invite you and your family to experience all of the fun that the CYC has to offer.
WHO WE ARE NOW
Reaching back over 100 years our club has a longstanding tradition of celebrating love of the water and surrounding marshes. With a history intertwined with that of the Lawrence Beach Club, The Rockaway Hunting Club, and more recently, the Garden Club of Lawrence, we have focused on passing down the lessons and traditions of sailing and boating culture, family fun, community engagement and environmental stewardship.
ENVIRONMENTAL Stewardship
CYC partners with the Garden Club of Lawrence to protect our surrounding wetlands. The marshes around our community provide numerous benefits to wildlife, botanical life, and their human neighbors. Healthy wetlands sustain fish, including baitfish and their predators, including striped bass, fluke, bluefish, and turtles. The ecosystem also provides food and cover for numerous seabirds, including herons, osprey, egrets, and plover.
